why chickens?

the story behind my chicken (or as i like to call it: kip)

i started drawing chickens in 2015. we had chickens at my parents’ house and one of them was white and had a really deep coloured red comb. so i started drawing it over and over, and put it in different kinds of situations. i eventually started painting the chicken as well. it’s basically something that completely got out of control.

sometimes i drop my chicken into other artists’ paintings. like keith haring or roy lichtenstein. or i try to draw it in another style, but try to keep it recognisable.

i like the fact that it’s so simple to draw and works in so many contexts. sadly i haven’t been drawing it a lot lately… it’s still my go to doodle though when i’m bored and have a pen and paper by hand.

there was a plan to make t-shirts and prints with my chicken, but i’m reluctant to do so. i have a very high standard when it comes to quality and i don’t think i can guarantee that standard when i start distributing it at scale. but never say never.
